NAPLAN band decoder

Got a NAPLAN letter and not sure what it means? Since 2023, results are reported as four proficiency levels per domain. Here's what each one is telling you — in plain English.

Exceeding

The student's result is above what is expected for their year level at the time of testing.

Strong

The student has met challenging but reasonable expectations for their year level.

Developing

The student is working towards expectations and may benefit from some extra support.

Needs additional support

The student is not achieving the learning expected and is likely to need targeted, additional support.
